Solskjaer defends criticism of Mourinho´s Man Utd: We´ll never settle for second

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has doubled down on his claims Jose Mourinho should not have been content with guiding Manchester United to second place during his Old Trafford reign.

Solskjaer and United again go head-to-head with Mourinho on Sunday as the Red Devils visit Tottenham looking to avenge their 6-1 home defeat earlier this season.

Mourinho is looking to become the first former United manager since Dave Sexton in 1981-82, then Coventry City boss, to complete a league double over the club following his departure.

The Portuguese won the EFL Cup and Europa League at Old Trafford but his best league finish was second in 2017-18.

Mourinho claimed that performance, behind record-breaking rivals Manchester City, as one of his greatest achievements .

Man Utd look to unveil Rasmus Hojlund as latest signing this weekend

Manchester United are likely to unveil Rasmus Hojlund as their latest signing during Saturday’s friendly against Lens, the PA news agency understands.

The 20-year-old Denmark striker has completed his medical after United agreed a deal with Atalanta in principle last week worth £64million plus a further £8m in potential add-ons.

Hojlund has agreed a five-year deal with the option of a further season at Old Trafford and will become Erik ten Hag’s third summer signing.

England midfielder Mason Mount arrived from Chelsea in June for £55m and goalkeeper Andre Onana completed his move from Inter Milan last month for a fee of £47.2m.

Serie A side Atalanta paid Sturm Graz a reported £15m for Hojlund last summer and he scored nine goals in 32 league appe…

Suso leaves Milan for Sevilla

Milan have allowed Spanish winger Suso to leave on an 18-month loan to Sevilla, who will be required to purchase him outright if certain objectives are met during his stay.

Suso, 26, joined the Rossoneri from Liverpool in 2015 and has been a prominent member of the first-team squad over the past three-and-a-half years.

The Spain international had played in 16 of Milan s 21 Serie A matches this term, scoring one and setting up another two.

Milan were said to have valued Suso at €40million in pre-season, but his underwhelming form this term is seemingly reflected by the reported €25m purchase option for Sevilla.

Big Match Focus: Arsenal v Wolves (Saturday 15:00 GMT)

Arsenal desperately need a positive result against Wolves if they are to draw a line under a tumultuous week at Emirates Stadium, but Nuno Espirito Santo s men have a strong record against the top flight s big six .

The Gunners have been reeling since they squandered a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 with Crystal Palace in a game that saw Arsenal captain Granit Xhaka booed by his own supporters, and the visibly angry Switzerland international cupped his ear to the disgruntled crowd as he left the field.

The result left Arsenal winless in two league games and facing something of a crisis of leadership as they prepare to face Wolves, who arrive in north London unbeaten in their last five league matches.

Last season s FA Cup semi-finalists have conceded just three goals i…

Vinicius targeting ´five or six´ Champions League trophies with Real Madrid

Real Madrid forward Vinicius Jr. is targeting further European glory beyond the UEFA Super Cup, as he looks to win five or six Champions League trophies.

The 22-year-old scored the only goal of the game in the Champions League final against Liverpool last season, the club s fourth in nine seasons but his first since joining the club from Flamengo in 2018.

Madrid have the opportunity for further honours in the Super Cup clash with Eintracht Frankfurt, taking place on Wednesday, and Vinicius is keen for a win in Helsinki but has aspirations that stretch far in the future with the Spanish giants.

It is very important to try to win as many games as possible, especially if you want to win competitions as important as the UEFA Super Cup, he told UEFA s official websit…

Calhanoglu confirms shock Inter move on free transfer from Milan

Hakan Calhanoglu has confirmed he is to join Inter in a shock free transfer from Milan.

The Turkey international has reached an agreement in principle over a three-year deal with the Serie A champions, according to Sky Sport Italia.

The deal is said to be worth more than the offer from Milan, who had hoped to see him extend his contract, which expires next week.

Speaking to TRT Spor on Monday before his return to Italy, Calhanoglu said: I ve reached an agreement with Inter. I will sign the contract tomorrow.

Calhanoglu made 172 appearances for Milan following a 2017 move from Bayer Leverkusen.

He played in all three of Turkey s Euro 2020 group games as they lost to Italy, Wales and Switzerland.

Havertz receives Premier League interest

According to a recent report from Bild, Bayer Leverkusen sensation Kai Havertz is attracting the attention of the English Premier League in a big way, with four clubs believed to be interested in the possibility of signing him. The German is said to be leaving Leverkusen during next summer’s transfer window for a fee believed to be around £100 million. Of course, nobody really knows what direction he’s going to turn in next, although the man himself is said to prefer the idea of a switch to Barcelona more so than anything else.

The four teams that are believed to be in the running from England’s top flight are Liverpool, Manchester City, Chelsea and Manchester United. All four have the finances necessary to make that sort of a deal come to fruition, but whether or no…

PSG 0-1 Bayern Munich: Three Things We Learned

Bayern Munich managed to outlast Paris Saint-Germain last night in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League round of 16 tie.

In a repeat of the 2020 Champions League final, Kingsley Coman scored the winning goal on the night against his former side as Bayern took a big step towards the quarter-finals.

Today, we ll be taking a look at a few of our big takeaways from another important night of European action.

Father time is coming

In a fun tidbit, Paris Saint-Germain started Warren Zaire-Emery a young man born in 2006. At 16 years and 343 days, he became the youngest player to ever start a Champions League knockout game. That statistic, in itself, is ridiculous and reminds us all of how quickly football is evolving. With each and every passing year, the leve…

Mbappe arrives for PSG training as Real Madrid close in

Kylian Mbappe arrived at Paris Saint-Germain s training ground on Friday amid the expectation Real Madrid would push to complete his signing in the coming hours.

Mbappe wore a white baseball cap and white T-shirt, and whether by accident or design that only fuelled anticipation of a blockbuster move to Los Blancos.

According to reports in Spain, Madrid have offered €170million plus €10million in add-ons for the France striker.

Mbappe was pictured by El Chiringuito TV arriving at the PSG premises ahead of a scheduled training session.

He was reported to have arrived shortly after 09:30 local time, with PSG due to step up preparation for their Ligue 1 clash with Reims on Sunday evening.

Mbappe, 22, has entered the final year of his PSG contra…

Rangers 1-0 Lech Poznan: Substitute Morelos seals victory for Gerrard´s men

Alfredo Morelos came off the bench to inspire Rangers to a slender 1-0 win over Lech Poznan in Europa League Group D on Thursday.

Steven Gerrard s side kicked off their campaign in style last week with a 2-0 win over Standard Liege, but they looked destined for a disappointing draw at Ibrox until Morelos introduction in the 63rd minute.

The Colombian made a swift impact after replacing Kemar Roofe, thumping home a close-range header five minutes later to seal an eighth consecutive win across all competitions for the Scottish Premiership leaders.

The result means Rangers are level on six points with Benfica – who they face next week – at the summit of the group.
