Liverpool have confirmed the signing of Real Madrid midfielder Nuri Sahin on a season-long loan, subject to a medical.
The 23-year-old signed for Real last year after playing a major role in the Borussia Dortmund side which won the Bundesliga title in 2010/11, picking up the league s player of the season award.
However, the Turkish international failed to break into Jose Mourinho s Real Madrid side and has been allowed to leave the Santiago Bernabeu on loan in order to find regular first-team football.
Several clubs, including English Premier League rivals Arsenal, were also in the hunt for Sahin s services but Brendan Rodgers has won the race for the playmaker.
A statement on the Anfield club s website on Saturday read: Liverpool Football Club have reached an agreement with Real Madrid to sign Nuri Sahin on a season-long loan deal, subject to the player passing a medical.
German-born Sahin has been capped 35 times by Turkey, scoring two times for the national side.
