Jamie Vardy Breaks Deadlock Against Bournemouth with a Trademark Strike (Video)

Leicester City beat AFC Bournemouth at the King Power Stadium on Saturday by 3-1, courtesy of a Jamie Vardy double with a Callum Wilson equalizer and Youri Tielemans goal squeezed in between.

Vardy opened the scoring in the 12th minute with this strike, very reminiscent of his form during the Foxes title-winning run in 2015/16.

Wolves promoted to Premier League after Fulham held

Wolves six-season exile from the Premier League is over after Fulham s failure to beat Brentford confirmed the Championship leaders return to the top flight.

Third-placed Fulham conceded a 94th-minute equaliser in a 1-1 home draw on Saturday to hand automatic promotion to Nuno Espirito Santo s men with four games to spare.

The Cottagers had appeared set to make Wolves wait after Aleksandar Mitrovic opened the scoring in the 70th minute, but a last-gasp Neal Maupay header means Wolves are now safe inside the top two.

An unbeaten run throughout November and December, along with the standout form of shock pre-season signing Ruben Neves, made for a smooth path back into the Premier League for the first time since 2011-12.

They finished bottom on that oc…

Sevilla 3 Shakhtar Donetsk 1 (5-3 agg): Gameiro brace books holders´ third straight final

Holders Sevilla remain on track for a third straight Europa League title after beating Shakhtar Donetsk 3-1 at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan and 5-3 on aggregate to pave the way for a final against Liverpool.

Kevin Gameiro gave the four-time champions an early lead, pouncing on a loose pass to run through on goal and finish well.

Eduardo da Silva got Shakhtar back level just before half-time, the striker beating David Soria from close range after a stunning Marlos run.

Sevilla edged ahead again shortly after half-time, Gameiro on target once more from a tight angle after Grzegorz Krychowiak sent him through on goal.

And a stunning goal by Mariano, his first for Sevilla, put the tie out of Shakhtar s reach, the defender unleashing a rasping shot from…

Van der Sar calls for Mourinho to deliver crowd-pleasing team

Former Manchester United goalkeeper Edwin Van der Sar has called for his old club to respond to the demands of the Old Trafford crowd by returning to the type of football they want to play in the 2018-19 season.

The 47-year-old said his former side need to invest in new signings if they are to catch up with deadly rivals Manchester City and suggested that manager Jose Mourinho needs to change his approach to emulate the successes of the past.

Mourinho s critics at Old Trafford bemoaned his side s style of play in 2017-18, which was in stark contrast to the dynamic, attacking football employed and encouraged by Alex Ferguson, under whom Van der Sar won four Premier League titles, the Champions League, the League Cup, the Community Shield and the Club World Cup.

Infantino calls for multiple World Cup hosts, talks down threat of violence in Russia

FIFA president Gianni Infantino has suggested as many as four countries could jointly stage the expanded World Cup in 2026 and claimed to be unconcerned about the threat of fan violence in Russia in 2018.

Football s international governing body last month voted to increase the number of teams competing in the quadrennial tournament from 32 to 48, significantly adding to the infrastructural and logistical demands upon any country hoping to host the event.

Japan and South Korea are the only nations to have jointly staged the competition, doing so in 2002.

The European Championship has been shared between two countries on three occasions, in 2000, 2008 and 2012, while Euro 2020 will be split across numerous locations on the continent.

And Infantino, who help…

Bitesize Prediction: Clermont vs Lens – 25/11/23

Market: Under 2.5 goals

Odds: 3/4 @

In what could be a cagey affair from the Stade Gabriel-Montpied on Saturday afternoon, Clermont will welcome Lens to town for a Ligue 1 showdown.

Starting with the hosts, although Clermont might have opened the 2023/24 campaign in the midst of a real Ligue 1 nightmare, Pascal Gastien’s side certainly claimed a welcomed boost prior to November’s international break. Heading into the fortnight interval with a gritty 1-0 victory at home against Lorient, the Lancers are unbeaten in each of their previous five top-flight appearances. With their recent turn in fortunes stemming all the way back to September 24th, the former Niort boss will be most excited by his side’s continued success at the back. Snatching an eye-catching 0…

Maribor 0 Rangers 0: Gerrard´s men book play-off berth with calm clean sheet

Rangers are one step away from the Europa League group stage after a 0-0 second-leg draw sealed a 3-1 aggregate victory over Maribor in the third qualifying round.

Buoyed by last week s vital home win, the Scottish side only needed a stalemate to advance and achieved that feat with only the minor scare of a late penalty Maribor penalty to sew up a play-off round date with Russian side Ufa.

An impressive performance from veteran goalkeeper Allan McGregor ensured even the late concern did not develop into any threat of a shock as he kept out Marcos Tavares stoppage time spot-kick.

The visitors had been pinned back on the edge of their own area for much of the first 25 minutes, albeit without major incident.

Allan McGregor in full flight in the first-half…

Benaglio joins Monaco after Wolfsburg exit

Diego Benaglio has signed a three-year contract with Ligue 1 champions Monaco after leaving Wolfsburg.

The 33-year-old s contract at Volkswagen Arena still had two years to run but he has opted to move to the Ligue 1 champions, agreeing a deal at Stade Louis II through to 2020.

The former Switzerland goalkeeper, who retired from international football in 2014, will compete with Danijel Subasic and Morgan De Sanctis for the number one shirt at Leonardo Jardim s title-holders.

It s an honour to join AS Monaco, the reigning French champions, he said in a statement on the club website.

I followed the team s results last year, they achieved great things. Obviously I ve also followed Falcao s season and Kylian Mbappe s development. I can t wait to meet the sq…

Solskjaer defends criticism of Mourinho´s Man Utd: We´ll never settle for second

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has doubled down on his claims Jose Mourinho should not have been content with guiding Manchester United to second place during his Old Trafford reign.

Solskjaer and United again go head-to-head with Mourinho on Sunday as the Red Devils visit Tottenham looking to avenge their 6-1 home defeat earlier this season.

Mourinho is looking to become the first former United manager since Dave Sexton in 1981-82, then Coventry City boss, to complete a league double over the club following his departure.

The Portuguese won the EFL Cup and Europa League at Old Trafford but his best league finish was second in 2017-18.

Mourinho claimed that performance, behind record-breaking rivals Manchester City, as one of his greatest achievements .

Man Utd look to unveil Rasmus Hojlund as latest signing this weekend

Manchester United are likely to unveil Rasmus Hojlund as their latest signing during Saturday’s friendly against Lens, the PA news agency understands.

The 20-year-old Denmark striker has completed his medical after United agreed a deal with Atalanta in principle last week worth £64million plus a further £8m in potential add-ons.

Hojlund has agreed a five-year deal with the option of a further season at Old Trafford and will become Erik ten Hag’s third summer signing.

England midfielder Mason Mount arrived from Chelsea in June for £55m and goalkeeper Andre Onana completed his move from Inter Milan last month for a fee of £47.2m.

Serie A side Atalanta paid Sturm Graz a reported £15m for Hojlund last summer and he scored nine goals in 32 league appe…
